The Final Diagnosis

The Final Diagnosis

So yesterday I was completely out of it and couldn’t report back, and as i’m writing this I’m still very low on energy. Wednesday was the day where I got all the results and final diagnosis. On monday I had my X-ray for my Stitz marker test and today I had my colonoscopy, anorectal manometry and breath test for SIBO.

The Sitz marker test showed that I have slow bowel transit and that over 10 markers were found still in the colon.

The breath test came back highly positive for methane production, so I am now on antibiotics, Flagyl and Neomycin and the Doctor has put me on a low FODMAP diet (with I will post some recipes for soon).

The next test was the anorectal manometry where they test to see if the lower end of your rectum works (Anorectal manometry). Again, I came back positive for hypo-sensitive sphincter, which basically means I never get the sensation to go to the toilet. Unfortunately there is no medication or formal treatment for this other than Biofeedback therapy because it is a neurological disorder. But i am going back to see the doctor next week to see what he recommends.

The last test was the colonoscopy, this one I was most nervous about. They ended up putting me under genral anethestic and all I can remember is waking up halfway though is unbearable pain, so they gave me more anethestic…yay!

Later the doctor told me that regardless of my many years of fighting constipation my bowel looks healthy with no scaring, which I’m very pleased about. However he did have to remove a small polyp which he wanted to test and I will get the tests back next week. He has also taken me off Movicol (Miralax) too and gave me new laxative called Resolor, which specifically help constipation in women.

As a result my constipation is due to many different problems which are all connected together. Hopefully if I take each day as it comes, stick to my diet, exercise and use laxatives suited to my symptoms, the doctor said I should be normal in about a year…well here’s hoping anyway. Right now I’m in the recovery stage and I feel pretty facile and I hope it will get better soon.

I will continue to updated on any bumps in the road I have and will also post new information I find on each matter.

Wish me Luck :)

Hi Jodie Kate, don’t worry about your Sitzmarker test you just have to take a pill, wait a couple of days then have a X-ray and that’s it! Whatever the outcome, you will be fine, Good Luck :)

Hi there, I’ve been suffering from bloating, loose stools and abdominal pains on and off for about 10 years. I am currently living in Bangkok and looking to have some tests done myself to get to the bottom of everything. May I ask which hospital and doctor you used?
