So I’ve just started the Low FODMAP Diet advised by my Doc. The Low FODMAP diet is to eliminate foods that are Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols, hence the acronym (FODMAP). These molecules can be poorly absorbed by some people…like me. Also people have different levels of tolerance, mine on the other hand is so sensitive that even soy milk I have trouble with at the moment.
One thing I have found on the low FODMAP diet is there is a lot of conflicting information, and what works for someone, may not work for someone else. However I have found great App created by Monash University the Founders of the FODMAP diet in Australia. This app has really helped me when eating out, at the supermarket and when cooking. Its so easy to use and is really detailed in terms of why some foods are good or not. It contains recipes with nutritional information, guides on what to eat, shopping lists that you can create yourself with the food right for you and explains gut fermenting. I think it is the most usefully I have ever downloaded, I love it!
If you would like to learn more about gut fermentation and IBS watch this video from Monash University!
